Sphere (SPH)

Sphere indicates the amount of lens power, measured in diopters (D), prescribed to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness.

If the number appearing under this heading has a minus sign (–), you are nearsighted; if the number has a plus sign (+) or is not preceded by a plus sign or a minus sign, you are farsighted.



Cylinder (CYL)

Cylinder indicates the amount of lens power for astigmatism. If nothing appears in this column, either you have no astigmatism, or your astigmatism is so slight that it is not really necessary to correct it with your eyeglass lenses.

Cylinder power is always written after sphere power in an eyeglass prescription.



Axis

Axis reflects the exact orientation of your astigmatism. Axis always attached with cylinder power it varies from 0 to 180. If your prescription holds a CYL value and no axis or vice versa, it is incomplete.

Eye glasses is mainly divided in to three size :
Small size – Up to 130mm edge to edge of the frame.
Medium size- 130mm to 140mm edge to edge of the frame.
Large size- 140mm onward.


1. Frame sizes with Millimeter ruler

If you are wearing old glasses measure the glass width with Millimeter ruler or cloth measuring tape by holding edge to edge of the frame.



2. Measure frame width by Card

Stand in front of a mirror or place your Smartphone somewhere steady and use your selfie camera. Place the credit card on the bridge of your nose and under your eyebrow.

If the card width extends the eyes, a small size would be perfect for you.

If the edge of the card ends at the outer edge of your eye, you are a medium size.

If the card edge finishes before your eyes end, you need a (L) large-sized frame.

3. Frame size by your cloth size

Its not accurate but roughly you can get idea of your spectacle size with the help of your cloth size

People who wear small size cloth the best match of frame will be Small size

For medium size cloth wearer medium size frame will be best match

Similar for large size wearer large size frame will be best option



What Is Pupillary Distance?

Your PD is the distance between the centre of each of your pupils. It is measured when you are looking straight ahead. This measurement helps to ensure that your prescription is properly centered for the clearest and most accurate vision.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT

A PD must be measured accurately for the glasses to be accurate. Ask to eye care professional to mention PD if it forgotten to mention in prescription.
